1E. Checking the TCP/IP settings

From the Control Panel (under Settings in the Start menu), click on the Network icon.

You should see icons for Dial-Up Networking and TCP/IP.

Click on TCP/IP, then click on Properties.


If your DNS Configuration screen does not look like this screen shot, click on Enable DNS.

When the TCP/IP Properties window comes up, click on the IP Address tab to bring up the screen that looks like the one on the right.

Make sure that the Obtain an IP address automatically radio button is checked. It does not matter if there are numbers in the grayed-out boxes.

Above the IP Address tab is the DNS Configuration tab. Click it.

Set the Host to "metric" and Domain to "inch.com".

If the numbers in the DNS Server Search Order are incorrect, click on each line in the larger box and then click Remove. Repeat the procedure for the Domain Suffix Search Order in the bottom boxes.

Place the cursor in the box next to Add in the leftmost space. The DNS Server Search Order should be: 216.223.200.14. Press Add. Place the cursor in the box again and enter 216.223.192.21 and press Add.

The Domain Suffix Search Order should be inch.com. Press Add.

Click on the WINS Configuration tab.

If the Disable WINS Resolution button is not checked, please check it now. It does not matter if there are numbers in the grayed-out boxes.


Finally, click on the Gateway tab to bring up the next screen.

If the numbers in the Installed Gateways are incorrect, click on each line in the larger box and then click Remove.

Place the cursor in the box next to Add in the leftmost space. The New Gateway should be: 0.0.0.0. Press Add.

TCP/IP is now set up. Press OK twice.

You will have to re-boot your computer. Please do so.
