BUYER BEWARE: We do NOT recommend pet
shops or puppy outlets as a source for buying a puppy! Most puppies sold out of pet shops and other puppy outlets come from "puppy mills" and commercial breeders. Many pet stores claim that their puppies come from
consciencious private breeders. In truth however, reputable breeders who belong to a national breed club, and abide by a code of ethics will NOT sell their puppies to pet stores, puppy outlets or brokers of any kind!
Some
pet stores and outlets which sell many breeds of puppies mislead the public into thinking that they are reputable breeding kennels or kennel clubs, and that they are associated with legitimate registries (such as the American
Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club) by calling themselves official-sounding names or "Kennel Clubs". Remember, legitimate registries such as the AKC and UKC do NOT sell puppies, they simply register them.
