Postcard  from Yangshuo, Nov. 21 88

    Ma & Pa:  My photos will be better  This town is amazing.  Made famous by the Lonely Planet guidebook, it has Cafes with Breakfast Specials lining the main street.  But rent a bike (32c/day), and you can get out on dirt paths to isolated villages and one-man ferryboats, the paddler of which rolls you a cigarette after he helps you with the bike.  The 10-hr bus from Wuzhou was hell, educational, diarrhea greated me, cured fast by local medicine.  Probably be here 5-6 days, on to Guilin and a strange region north with a German couple I met on the boat.  Still planning as I go and learn.  China is poor.  Poverty is exotic.  Young rich tourists come.  Locals respond.   Love, ...
