Studied Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu Karate with Shihan Scott Ashley at the SOHO training center. Became his assistant instructor in July 1987.

Studied Shorin-ryu with Sensei Michael Blackhearst. Received my first degree black belt after three years of intensive one on one training that included forms, self defense, and traditional Okinawan weapons.

January 1982 - March 1983
Studied Kodokan Judo with Sensei Shiro Oishi at New York University’s Coles Sports Facility.

September 1979 - Dec 1981
Studied Shotokan Karate with Sensei Vincent Butta at the Japanese Karate Club located at 3101 Tremont Ave. in the Bronx. Earned rank of purple belt after two years of study.
